Sorry about the quality but here's a non-brushed out before and after!
I'm sure you'll have all heard about this mascara being raved about in the wonderful world of blogging and Youtube- but what is all this hype about for another Maybelline mascara? Quite frankly, most Maybelline mascaras are a hit and miss- some people love them whereas others loathe them- take the Rocket Volume Express or the Falsies as an example but I think this mascara had everybody talking!
To start off with, the wand is quite unusual compared to a normal mascara wand- it has an "open fan brush" and claims to "volumes lashes from root to tip". I was quite a fan of the wand myself, but maybe not so much about the formula (I'll get to that later) The wand was very easy to use and brushed out your lashes perfectly- and the smaller end allowed you to get in all those fiddly corners which would otherwise end up all smudged over your eyelid and potentially ruin some eyeshadow and on-fleek eyeliner! The wand itself, has to be my favorite thing about this mascara.
However the formula was something I wasn't too sure of... If you use two mascaras like me, then this certainly doesn't work well with any other mascara underneath it- nor did it work the Falsies, nor my MAC Haute & Naughty and instead just made my lashes look incredibly clumpy and make eyelashes stick together and become very dark- where they would otherwise be separated but just needed a bit of length. On its own, it isn't too bad but expect to have either an old mascara wand or some clear mascara to separate the formula out a bit over your lashes- if you do it gives a lovely length and separates your lashes perfectly but if not... they can sometimes stick your lashes together although don't go clumpy by themselves. As for lasting power, the mascara stayed all day without fall out which was quite impressive however was a little difficult to remove as it would flake up under my eyes- annoying, I know. Also, a little bugbear of mine was that it had so much product on at first so too much product got on my lashes- but if you stick with it... it'll be fine within a week or two!
Packaging wise, I think the rose gold is quite cute and the tube itself is bigger than my Maybelline Falsies (as seen in the images) and the handle is quite nice to work with and slip-free!
Pros:
- Really lengthens lashes
- Can look very nice when separated out with an old mascara wand or clear mascara
- Quite nice packaging
- Isn't too expensive for drugstore mascaras
- Stays on all day
Cons:
- Maybelline test on animals
- If you don't use a wand to separate out lashes, it can look very stuck together and clumpy
- Doesn't work with other mascaras
- Can take a long time to get the desired 'fan effect'
- Can be hard to remove at times
Overall, I may re-purchase this mascara again, however I may decide to try out another Maybelline mascara as even though this one made my lashes look lovely in the end- it is very fiddly and takes a long time to get the desired effect.
