I'll be honest... I used to be the girl that hid behind makeup and, every now and then, still do it- why have a blotchy red face when you can cover it up with foundation, right? The thing about makeup, is that it can make somebody feel a million dollars- I know it first hand, I'm a lot more confident when I have my full face lathered on! I'm sure you'd all have heard this saying- but "makeup was designed to enhance natural features, not hide imperfections", some may say.
However, it's a multi-billion pound, dollar, whatever fits your fancies industry- makeup is so commonly worn these days that people are applauded if they don't wear makeup. Or even more frequently seen, are the girls that are shamed by others for wearing full faces- take this tweet, for example
My point is, why do people feel the need to makeup shame girls? Yes, NikkieTutorials may not look the same without makeup- but what girl in their right mind has naturally smokey eyes and contoured face?! For many nowadays, makeup is not just a hobby, but also a job- and I think that's incredible, who doesn't love to be pampered every now and then? I agree, the rise of media and beauty has meant the ages of people wearing makeup are decreasing and decreasing- I mean, I'm sure there are 10 year olds that can contour better than I can! However, makeup is all harmless fun and comments like the one above can be part of things that crush self-esteem. Also, can we just talk about the people who ask who you're trying to impress? Makeup is not meant to be a mask, nor something to attract male attention, nor something to make us doll-like and 'fake', makeup is all just a bit of creative fun for the most part!
So, to all the makeup haters & shamers... You may hate makeup, but that doesn't mean others do too- so don't makeup shame people and make them feel shit about themselves, and be the bigger person!
And to everyone who loves makeup just as I do, keep doing you! Makeup is not something that should be worn for someone else, nothing should be that way- really. Everybody's beautiful in their own way; yes, we all have insecurities- but that's normal, and for everyone suffering with self-esteem issues... I hope you find your happy place soon, because there's going to come a point when you'll stop caring, promise!
