5 Things I Wish I Had Known Before Starting Sixth Form

23/6/2020

Sixth Form: two words that quite possibly evoke the entire spectrum of human emotions. As I begin to reflect on the wild and eventful rollercoaster ride that was my A-Level experience, I thought it may be worth compiling a few things that I wish had known prior to starting the journey - for I know that I was Googling left, right and centre for any more information to squeeze out on the topic! Today, I would suggest taking a look at the challenges faced by Indigenous people in Latin America - I found this documentary by The New York Times particularly fascinating.

How to Complete Critical Reading (A-Level English Literature)

15/5/2020

In my recent post regarding my A-Level English Literature experience, I mentioned the fact that there is truly just one skill to be learnt in this qualification which is completely new: the incorporation of critics. To some degree, I feel as if that statement undermines the initial difficulties that said critics tend to present and, given that coursework season is fast approaching, I thought I would share my method as to how you can complete critical reading as quickly and as effectively as possible. Although this post is aimed at A-Level students, I see no reason as to why it could not work for university students or others alike. As per usual, I hope you find this post helpful and let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

My Honest A-Level English Literature Experience

18/4/2020

To continue my series detailing my experience with each of the A-Level subjects I took, I thought it would be a good idea to move on to English Literature today. Needless to say, my experience with English Literature has been a lot more standard, if you will, than that of A-Level Spanish but nonetheless, I hope this post proves helpful if you are starting to think about which A-Level subjects you would like to take - be it this September (we can only hope, anyway) or further down the line next year. If you think I have missed anything out or would like to leave a thought or two, be sure to do so in the comments down below. I hope you find this post helpful!

My A-Level Spanish Experience: What It's Like to Do a Language A-Level WITHOUT the GCSE

¡Buenos días a todos, espero que todo vaya bien! There is no rest for the wicked today on EveryLittleThing Blog; as one series comes to an end, another one begins. As the academic year slowly begins to come to its close, I'm aware that many Year 10 and indeed Year 11 pupils will be thinking about the subjects that they want to take at A-Level - for even if you have already submitted your preferences, it is not too late to change them and I know many people that did so on Results Day! Today, I'm kicking things off with a bang by talking about my A-Level Spanish experience - which, in all honesty, is rather unique given that, walking into my first lesson, I just about knew how to say: "¡Hola, soy Dora!". Nonetheless, I hope it provides an interesting insight if you are considering A-Level Spanish, taking up another language from scratch or indeedy if you're just nosey! Let me know any thoughts in the comments below and let's jump straight on in...

Let's jump straight in...

2/4/2020

Today, I feel, marks a rather momentous occasion on this blog as we conclude the A-Level revision series with the much awaited post about how you can revise for your A-Level English Literature exam. Admittedly, this is a post that I was putting off while I was still at school purely due to the fact that it is so extensive and has required many hours on my part to make it come to fruition - hence the slight delay from my new schedule. Nevertheless, I hope this is a post you find to be helpful and without further ado, let's get right into the crux of the matter!

How I Revise: A-Level French & Spanish (Paper Two)

20/2/2020

In all honesty, when I was first writing my post about how to revise for an A-Level French/Spanish exam, I truly had no intention of turning it into a two or even three part series - but that's the way the cookie crumbles, am I right? See the thing is, for both French and Spanish I study a book and text in the respective language - and it just wouldn't have been appropriate for me to pass on my tips and tricks with no experience of revising for one or the other. Without further rambling on, I hope that I've provided a comprehensive guide as to how you can revise and that there's something you can take away - but I'm only human, so if there's something I've missed then be sure to let me know in the comments below!

Work Smarter, NOT Harder: How To Be More Productive & Get Shit Done

1/12/2019

I have to admit, the one question which I simply cannot stand receiving as a study blogger is the classic "How many hours should I be revising?" or anything along that train of thought. See, this is one of the main issues I have with the community as it stands; seeing as it's a little difficult to evaluate your work by how much you have been able to achieve and retain at a later date, we just tend to resort to hours as some sort of reliable measurement for productivity and, thus, success. The problem with this, though, is that one person could get the same amount of work done in 4 hours as another might in 8 - and no, it's not a question of natural ability, it's to do with how focused and efficient you've been. This was my greatest mistake at GCSE: it was almost as if I was on house arrest by my own accord, chained to my books, and quite frankly... I did nothing but make myself miserable - all the while not even retaining half of the information I was supposedly learning! Most of us have been here, at least in the latter scenario, but today I'm hoping to share some of my A-Level wisdom as to how you can get the most of your study sessions by doing more in less time - all the while retaining what you learn so that you have time to do the things that you enjoy. Gosh, that was a long introduction - but I hope you enjoy this post, and let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!

How I Revise: A-Level/GCSE Maths

12/8/2019

Lo and behold, the 'How to Revise' series is making its return this Back to School season- and we're starting with the highly anticipated post about how to revise for maths, both at A-Level and GCSE! Admittedly, this has been a blog post that I've been putting off because, unlike English Literature or Spanish where my revision methods are quite varied, maths is a subject where my revision is rather repetitive and almost ritualistic- but it's a process that has really worked for me over the years, and I thought it might be helpful to share it nevertheless. As always, if you have any queries or if there's anything you think I've missed out, feel free to leave me a comment down below and I hope you find this post useful!
