5 Things I Learnt In My First Month on TikTok

6/1/2021

Like many others, I vowed to myself at the start of the year that I wouldn't join TikTok. Alas, as soon as lockdown 1.0 ensued, I finally caved in — and it was rather surprising to see that the app didn't just consist of dancing pre-teens. In the past month or so, I decided to take the plunge and start making content myself. Granted, there's still a long way to go, but there's a couple of tips and tricks that I have learnt in my first month that I wanted to share with you today. Before we get into the heart of the matter, do feel free to leave a comment in the comments section below with any thoughts or additional tips!

The Truth About Motivation & Working From Home

20/12/2020

Let us get a little personal for a moment or so; I think that, in many ways, my first term at university was a lot harder than I perhaps let on — the main reason for which being, or at least seeming to be, my complete and utter lack of motivation. And this by no means a 'me' problem, for I believe many are the students this year who feel like they're not learning as much as they would like to, what with all classes being online. There's one thing that I have realised in the approach to the end of term, though — and that's that we should stop seeking motivation because motivation is, in many ways, a myth. Intrigued to hear my thoughts on the matter? It's time to click the 'Read More' button!

7 Things I Did In London In My First Term of University

13/12/2020

If there's one thing I'm almost certain about, it's that 2020 has been as much of a write-off for you as it has for me. Nonetheless, I do think that it is important to reflect on the good moments — as few and as far in-between as they may have been. Many of these happier moments for me occurred when I moved to London for university, which is perhaps unsurprising given that I thrive on having a lot to do, and it is these moments that I wanted to share with you today. Granted, I'm sure that many Londoners would roll their eyes at this list, for most of these activities scream the word tourist, but I hope I can still provide some sort of insight with café recommendations and so on and so forth. Have any other less-known sights to recommend? Let me know in the comments below!

The University Diaries: How to Save Money as a Student

1/12/2020

If there's one thing that university teaches us poor students (both in a literal and symbolic sense), it's that merely existing costs a pretty penny. That being said, I don't think it's time just yet to hold up our hands in defeat and succumb to the nutritious diet that is baked beans on toast and Pot Noodles. I'm sure you've heard of the saying 'when there's a will, there's a way' — and this is precisely one of those instances. Today, I'll be sharing a few ways that I have been keeping my costs down as a student — and I want to emphasise 'a few' here, because we could really be here all day! As always, if you have anything to add or comment upon, just scroll down to the comments section at the end of the post.

First-Year University Room Tour: How I Decorated My Room on a Budget

20/11/2020

Good evening my darlings, I hope you're all doing well. I must say, following a very hectic start to university, it has been nice to have the opportunity to return to this blog. Now, I am sure I am not the only one in thinking that one of the most exciting aspects about moving university is having the ability to start afresh. That not only spans to room decor, of course, but it is what I am going to be focusing on today. Is this post a little self-indulgent? Perhaps, but I am going to be sharing some tips along the way as to how you can upgrade your room on a budget. I do hope that you enjoy the post, and be sure to leave me any thoughts in the comments below as per usual.

For context purposes, I am a first-year undergraduate reading Spanish at University College London. Due to privacy reasons, I will not be sharing the name of the specific accommodation block that I am in, but I hope that you respect this decision.

The "Class of Covid": A Reflection On Starting University In 2020

23/10/2020

As I sit at my desk in my childhood bedroom with a cup of tea at hand, I still cannot believe that I have already been at university for a month, for I sometimes wonder if I'm even at university at all. This year has been defined by one defeating announcement after another, from that of a national lockdown to the cancellation of exams, and Zoom university fits right into the mix. It hasn't been all doom and gloom, don't get me wrong, but the experience could in many ways not be more different to that of my older peers. For that, I've decided to write a little post both entailing where I've been during this one-month hiatus and what this new experience has been like from the perspective of a first-year student. I hope you are all doing well and, as per usual, leave any thoughts in the comments below.

New In Fashion: Second-Hand Edition.

Whether we like it or not, the clothes that we wear every day have the potential to say an awful lot about ourselves. I have always been one to embrace this and so when I had a little clear out a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't help but think that my clothes no longer represented the person that I am today: it was time for change. More specifically, it was time for a change that would be both sustainable for the planet and for my pocket. That brings me to today's post: a compilation of my treasure hunt finds. Above all, I hope this post busts a few old myths about second-hand shopping and encourages you to give it a go if you haven't already - I promise you won't be disappointed! As always, leave me any thoughts in the comments below.

A/W Style Forecast 2020

Well isn't this a trip down memory lane? Those that have been here a while will know that - while a fashion post is now probably one of the last things that you would expect to see on this blog - I was quite fond of the odd fashion post a couple of years ago. Don't get me wrong, my utter adoration for clothing as a means of expression has not once disappeared in that time; fashion was simply an interest I felt somewhat misplaced to talk about. Having realised that you do not need to be some sort of expert to speak about a subject you are passionate about, I am back to present you with a Style Forecast for this season. From knitted vests to faux-leather shirt jackets, there really is something for everybody this season! As usual, do let me know of any thoughts in the comments below and I hope you enjoy this post.

A Deep Dive Into My August Reads

7/9/2020

As much as I enjoy picking up a good book, I will be the first to say that I am not the biggest reader. Despite frequently setting myself the goal of reading more frequently, there was always something that came up which distracted me from this mission. This, of course, all changed once my sixth-month long holiday began and I had a little bit more time on my hands - particularly during August. For that, I wanted to share some of the books that I have been reading recently and give you a couple of recommendations from an average person's perspective. I do hope you enjoy this post and, as always, be sure to leave me your thoughts in the comments section below.

Has 2020 Marked the End of the Gossip Magazine?

27/8/2020

Let's take our minds back a decade to 2010; you've just arrived at your dentists for a check-up and, as always, things are looking a little busy and you may have to wait a little longer than you anticipated. Nowadays, you're likely to use the time to catch up on your socials but let's not forget that, at this moment in time, smartphones were only just beginning to disrupt the market. So what do you do now? Well, what better way to pass the time than to grab something from the little table in the corner - you know, the one that's overflowing with magazines such as Hello and Now? You see, whether you love them or hate them, the gossip magazine was the pinnacle image of the 2000s. In a quick turn of events, however, the sound of crickets can be heard emanating from the very Tesco shelves these magazines were bought from. That leads me to the question, has 2020 finally marked the end of the gossip magazine?
