Well isn't this a trip down memory lane? Those that have been here a while will know that - while a fashion post is now probably one of the last things that you would expect to see on this blog - I was quite fond of the odd fashion post a couple of years ago. Don't get me wrong, my utter adoration for clothing as a means of expression has not once disappeared in that time; fashion was simply an interest I felt somewhat misplaced to talk about. Having realised that you do not need to be some sort of expert to speak about a subject you are passionate about, I am back to present you with a Style Forecast for this season. From knitted vests to faux-leather shirt jackets, there really is something for everybody this season! As usual, do let me know of any thoughts in the comments below and I hope you enjoy this post.

Knitted Vests
The knitted vest is undoubtedly one of the most prominent trends for this Autumn/Winter season, particularly in a cable-knit, argyle or houndstooth pattern. First showcased on the A/W runways with the likes of many major fashion houses like Dior and Prada, these vests are now sold out everywhere! The beauty of this trend truly lies in its simplicity; all it takes to look high-fashion is pairing up this vest with a collared shirt and a nice skirt or pair of well-fitting trousers. Well, the simplicity combined with looking as if you turned to your grandad's wardrobe for inspiration. Is this trend to my taste? Not exactly, but that doesn't stop me appreciating it from afar!
Quilted Jackets
The quilted jacket can be said to be a micro-trend for this season; while the piece is not quite as popular as the knitted vest, for example, it can still be found at most retail outlets. What I love about this trend specifically is that, unlike some of the other trends that I will be mentioning, this one is very versatile. If it is the effortless chic look you're after, you can pair your quilted jacket with the classic top and jeans combination followed up with a pair of riding boots. Conversely, you can put a modern spin on that look and choose to go with some faux-leather joggers and chunky trainers. The possibilities are endless! Had I not already bought a new beige puffer jacket, I would certainly splash out on a quilted jacket equivalent.
The 'Shacket'
Speaking of jackets, how could I possibly go without mentioning the shirt jacket (or 'shacket')? Having already taken the year by storm, the shirt jacket is set to reach new heights as the perfect transition piece for this autumn/winter season. Given that it is naturally more relaxed in fit, the 'shacket' is the perfect item for those that have a more casual or preppy style. That being said, it is not impossible to dress up for those who prefer a more elegant look. By way of example, you could easily pair this jacket with a turtleneck, a pair of well-fitting cigarette trousers and some ankle boots - don't forget some accessories! While this trend is not my cup of tea per se, it is one I believe could be fun to experiment with this season.

Seeing as these trends are getting a little top-heavy, let's split things up by taking a look at faux leather. It cannot be doubted that faux leather is one of those materials that is so timeless that it never really goes out-of-style; that being said, I'm sure you will have picked up on a mini-boom of faux leather everything that has happened this year. From faux leather headbands to faux leather jogging bottoms, there's no item of clothing that is exempt here! I must say, I think this trend can be very flattering when it is done right and I am most certainly looking to invest in a good pair of beige faux-leather leggings this season.

Over the past year, collared tops have slowly been gaining more and more momentum. Particularly popular at the moment is the school-style shirt layered underneath a sweatshirt; needless to say, the contrast between the casual and the smart calls for an interesting, multi-dimensional look. On the rise also is the dainty Victorian blouse, which can look incredible paired with a pair of trousers and a trench coat or blazer. As you can see, this trend has scope to both flatter most styles and to act as the perfect transition piece - in turn making it one of my favourites for this season.
Neutral Shoes
Much like the faux leather, neutral shoes are items that never truly go out of fashion in the autumn/winter season. Nonetheless, you can certainly expect to see some more white ankle boots and beige knee-highs when you're out and about this year - especially with some chain detailing, a popular addition to the boot on recent runways. I must say, I am quite the fan of this trend and have already bagged myself some beige knee-high boots to add to my wardrobe; as much as we do love a bit of black in our wardrobes, I find that we really do underestimate how much better neutrals can look on certain skin tones - given that they are less overwhelming to the eye.
