Those who have read my recent blog post about The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Solution will be aware that one of my major resolutions for this year was to both invest more in and take better care of my skin. Granted, there’s not necessarily an awful lot that can be done about my hormonal acne without professional consultancy, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t work to be done when it comes to my dry skin and prevention of premature ageing. As a result, following a little bit of research, I decided to purchase some new products and I thought that I would feedback to you today about what was worth the money and what wasn’t. Of course, I am no dermatologist myself, but I do believe there is a certain value to product reviews from the average Sally! As per usual, let me know your thoughts and recommendations in the comments section below! G x CERAVE HYDRATING CLEANSER, £9.50 (236ml)For years, I had been the type to purchase and use whatever cleanser or face wash was on offer at the supermarket : L’Oréal, Neutrogena, Simple - you name it! After a while, however, I noticed that these cleansers were not making a great deal of difference to the condition of my skin - if any, really - and it was at that point that I began to look for alternatives. Having heard many rave reviews from dermatologists and fellow skincare fanatics alike, I decided to give this Hydrating Cleanser from CeraVe a whirl and let me tell you, I am never looking back! Not only is this cleanser gentle on my allergy and acne prone skin, but it also leaves my skin feeling incredibly supple and smooth, providing a perfect texture for both makeup application in the mornings and a deep cleanse in the evenings. Admittedly, I was a little worried about quickly running out of the product, but it is still going strong 5 months in. Needless to say, this cleanser is worth every penny and will complement most skincare routines perfectly! THE INKEY LIST GLYCOLIC ACID TONER, £6.99 (100ml)Truth be told, I have always been a little sceptical of toners; more than anything, I felt as if they were a gimmick product, yet another unnecessary step in one’s skincare routine. Since doing a little more research into the use of acids in skincare, however, I decided to take the plunge with this Glycolic Acid Toner from The Inkey List and give them another shot. Is this an essential product? I wouldn’t say so. That being said, I have noticed that, after using it every other night for several months, it does help to give my skin the extra hydration that it so desperately needs as well as giving it a brighter and healthier appearance. What’s more is that very little product is needed per use, so this bottle will last you a long time and, priced at only £6.99, I don’t suppose you can go too wrong. KIEHL’S ULTRA FACIAL CREAM, £26.00 (50ml)It would not be an exaggeration to say that this face cream is one of, if not the, most hyped in both the YouTube and blogging beauty community - perhaps unsurprising given that it is both fragrance free and contains ingredients such as squalane which help to lock in moisture. However, as controversial as this may be, I did not enjoy this face cream and was glad that I had bought the smaller size instead of its full-size counterpart. First and foremost, the pot packaging is every acne sufferers nightmare; no matter how many times you wash your hands prior to applying this cream, the pot will still become contaminated with all sorts of gunk that you then go to apply on your face. Secondly, I simply didn’t notice any difference in using this product on its own; it simply sat on my skin and added no moisturising properties, but rather maintaining the current state of affairs, if you get my drift. For the price too, I believe there are plenty of more affordable options on the market that would do a better job, as you will see below. As you can probably tell, I was not a fan! LA ROCHE-POSAY TOLERIANE SENSITIVE CREME, £16.50 (40ml)As I was nearing the end of my Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream pot - to which I’m sure you can imagine my excitement - it was time for me to look for another moisturiser. I had heard good things about La Roche-Posay and, after seeing that this particular product was highly rated on the Boots website, I decided to pick it up. Luckily, I have had a much better experience with this moisturiser! Not only is the packaging a lot more convenient, it is also a lot more hygienic and easier to keep clean between uses - great for those who, like me, are prone to acne. The cream itself has a beautiful texture, providing the perfect amount of moisture for either day or night time without being sticky or taking a dreadfully long time to sink in. It also does not irritate my skin or lead to further breakouts. Is it a little more on the expensive side? Yes, but worth every penny and you better bet that this is a product that I will be repurchasing! LA ROCHE-POSAY ANTHELIOS ULTRA-LIGHT INVISIBLE FLUID, £17.50 (50ml)Being an avid user of acids in my skincare routine, it is absolutely vital that I use a high-factor SPF to prevent my face from sun-damage; after all, it is this sun damage that can lead to premature ageing! The problem that I would all too often encounter, however, is my face looking like a greaseball whenever I decided to pair said suncream with any form of makeup. For that, I decided to invest in this sun cream to use specifically on my face from La Roche-Posay. In all honesty, I was a little shocked at how small the bottle for the product was when it arrived in the post, but what I learnt very quickly is that a little goes a long way due to the watery consistency of the product. What’s more is that it gets the job done, sinking into my skin and leaving a demi-matte finish in a matter of minutes. Again, worth every penny for fellow makeup wearers! THE ORDINARY AHA 30% + BHA 2% PEELING SOLUTION, £6.00 (30ml)As briefly touched upon in the introduction of this post, I have recently dedicated an entire blog post to this product so I do not want to spend too long dwelling on it now - you can click this link if you are interested in finding out a little more. Long story short, this peeling solution from The Ordinary is supposed to act as a chemical exfoliant and I can safely say that, having used it once a week for close to two months, I have seen a visible improvement in my skin - namely when it comes to ridding of acne scars. That being said, I do not believe that it is the miracle product that the internet has hyped it up to be - although for £6.00, I don’t suppose you can go far wrong with this treat product!
